swazi singing

Now, don't get me wrong but Swazi women have a way of singing that sounds like crying--a thin up-and-down-the-scale modulation-- that is very local; is it derived from traditional singing (traditional weddings, funerals, ceremonies and the like) or from church settings (especially those of Zion)? I don't know the answer to that one yet but it's certainly interesting.
